My Baby is ONE!- Part 1

Sorry, this is going to be a sentimental one!
How can I not be in a nostalgic mood when 10:40, tomorrow morning, marks Bennett’s glorious arrival into our lives with three small pushes. My son, my heart’s joy, my little lover. I never knew my heart to grow and expand to love TWO little miracles.
Those who know me well know that I struggled for many weeks to accept that we were pregnant again so soon after Chloe was born. This was not MY plan but, man, am I glad God is control of the timing of our lives. My second hurdle was accepting we were having a boy. I didn’t know what to do with a boy. My fears washed away the SECOND he was born. I was head over heels in love with Bennett the minute I set my eyes on his puffy, perfect face. I wouldn’t trade him for 100 girls. I love that I get to experience raising both genders.
He was a baby that was so laid back we joked about needing to take his pulse. Go with the flow, easy going, ALWAYS happy and smiling. Totally amazing baby. He has gigantic eyes that crinkle when he smiles. I LOVE his eyes, they give him such a sweetness.
(CUE pictures from his birthday party yesterday. My studly one year old)
He started crawling Christmas Eve. Once he felt the sweet freedom mobility brought him a switch flipped. My laid back dude was now an adventurous, fearless, climbing machine. I think he is a combination of Curious George and Dennis the Menace. He means well, he is in it for a good time, but he JUST CAN’T HELP HIMSELF…he must climb, explore, and be free from boundaries. He is not afraid to voice his displeasure if we crimp his style.
He is full of it, but in a way that is 1/3 exasperating and 2/3 hysterical. He makes me laugh so hard.
He is also my little lover. He gives freely and frequently big open mouth kisses. He wants to be held at least half the day and only mama will do. I love how affectionate he is and even when I think my back is going to break from his 25lbs I can’t stop hugging and kissing him. He is a little butterball with the softest cheeks ever created.
I think all parents ponder their child’s future. What will they be like, what will their personality be, what will be their interests and talents, how will they impact the world, will they make good choices in friends or a spouse.
My continued prayer for Bennett as we watch his abilities and mind grow by leaps and bounds is that he would live up to his name. Bennett Wade means “blessing to go forth”. May we continue to nurture his little spirit so that he can become all that God would have him be to bless others.
Bennett, you are joy and light in our lives. There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank the Lord for the blessing you are to our family. Thank you for teaching us patience, gentleness, love, and gratefulness. You are a spirited boy who captivates people with your big green eyes and crooked smile. Thank you for being the best son we could have ever hoped for.
His face cracks me up in this one.
We love you Bennett! Happy 1st B-day.
Stay tuned for part 2 of Bennett’s b-day pictures. The DETAILS. My friend and mega talent with a piping bag, Beth Baxter from Taste Selects Confectionery, made us the most DELICIOUS and ridiculously adorable Sock Monkey and banana cupcakes. Here is a preview.
