Susan and Thad~ May 9, 2009
posted by Kelly
Kelly is usually the blogger of the two of us, but she thought I should post this next set of photos because she stayed at home on this one.
A couple of months ago, our dear friend Adam Barnes called to see if I could come with him to shoot a wedding at The Clifton Inn. I checked my schedule, had the weekend free, and immediately jumped at the chance to shoot with our area’s most established, award-winning photographer.
I met up with Thad and his groomsmen at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville to hang out with them and get some shots of them at the downtown mall while Adam went to shoot the girls getting ready.
These guys were so easy to shoot. They genuinely enjoyed getting their photo taken. A rare occurrence indeed!
I really dig the classic bow ties. That’s the way to do it if you’re going to wear a tux!
One of Thad’s Groomsmen got there a bit later because of traveling from another wedding so we got some more shots when we got to the Inn.
Since I was with the guys all day, I didn’t get a chance to get many shots of the girls. But I did get this one shot of the ladies.
Susan incorporated her heritage by having a Persian ceremony performed. Here are some of the details.
The amazing details executed by Jennifer Carroll Events.
Just before the start of the ceremony.
Susan with her dad.
I stepped behind the best man and saw he was holding both rings.
A few shots of Susan’s ring.
The whole bridal party.
Cocktail hour into reception
These two looked like they were solving all the world’s problems every time they spoke.
Reception time!
Susan’s bouquet had a piece of her mother’s wedding dress wrapped around the stems as a tribute to her lost battle with breast cancer five years ago. She told the story of her mom’s dress and how it had been worn by her mother and also by a dear friend who was in attendance at the wedding. Instead of throwing the it, Susan presented her friend with the bouquet. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen at a wedding. Hands down.
Father/daughter dance
The Dickens played for almost four hours straight and were super tight!
Thad’s dad getting busy.
I was told that these guys have all been friends since they were about eight years old. How cool is that?
Near the end of the reception a donut cart pulled up and served hot cinnamon sugar donuts. The waiters also came around with some delicious sliders to top the guests off. Great touch.
Thanks again Adam for having me along. It was a long day but I had an incredible time.

The bouquet idea is AMAZING. My mom passed away from breast cancer as well, and my sister and I have both talked about how when we get married we want to incorporate something incredibly special, so I am definitely taking that idea! (One of our aunts actually used our mother’s dress as well, so why not take the WHOLE idea, eh?!)
Great shots!
