For anybody living in the south in the month of July then you know the center of the sun descended upon us. This was, by far, the hottest shooting month we have ever experienced in our four years of shooting weddings. Coupled with the fact that I was in my 1st trimester and spending intimate time with the toilet every day…PERSEVERANCE was the name of my game! You can imagine my surprise and everyone else’s in the bridal party when the weatherman called for a sunny, 110 degree heat index and 70% humidity day. I don’t know who I felt more sorry for, all the guys in formal black tuxes or myself (cue tiny violins).
Despite the oppressive heat, this bridal party was seriously a blast. The guys were cracking us up joking about the heat instead of complaining about it. I was so impressed with them, there was no way they were going to give Jodi and Alan anything less than a fun, blessed day. That’s just what they did. To add insult to injury, the air conditioning broke in the church but nobody complained. A fun and boisterous limo ride from Bedford over to Boonsboro Country Club brought the crew in full spirits onto the greens and into the reception in full party mode.
Alan and Jodi, I know it was a beastly hot day but I know by the people you chose to surround yourself with that you are well-loved and well-cared-for. You threw a gorgeous wedding and super fun reception. I’m sad to report that we did NOT have the million dollar lottery ticket, so we won’t be splitting anything monetarily with you…but I tell you what, we will give you your pictures, STRAIGHT-UP on a disk in the next few weeks :-)
Enjoy reliving your special day.
You know you are close with your priest when you end with a fist pound.
We headed over to the beautiful Boonsboro Country Club for swanky reception. First a little rendezvous on the greens.
Because we were about to die of heat exhaustion we took it inside and reconvened to the greens at sunset.
Jody chose such a classic, modern pallet of black, white and apple green. Inside an intimate, beautiful spread awaited us.
The bridal party and Jodi and Alan made quite the dancing entrance. Apparently, the story behind the green hat and sunglasses was that his groomsmen made him wear this during his bachelor party in Atlantic City. He thought it would be funny to revive it for the wedding entrance.
Jodi’s family wanted to incorporate some Polish wedding traditions into the evening. I am going to copy and paste in what was said while the traditions were going on so I don’t mess it up.
“THE PARENTS OF THE BRIDE WILL NOW SERVE JODI AND ALAN WITH BREAD, SALT, WINE AND A SILVER COIN:
WITH THE BREAD, KNOWN AS THE GIFT OF GOD, IS GIVEN BY THE PARENTS ARE HOPING THAT THEIR CHILDREN WILL NEVER HUNGER OR BE IN NEED.
WITH THE SIP OF WINE FROM A SINGLE GLASS SIGNIFIES, “ENJOY THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE ALWAYS TOGETHER”. THE SALT, WHICH COMES FROM THE EARTH, REPRESENTS “MAY YOU OVERCOME THE BITTERNESS IN LIFE”, AND THE SILVER COIN, WHICH IS HELD BY BOTH, “MAY YOU BE WEALTHY WITH GOOD HEALTH AND NEVER BE IN A FINANCIAL STRESS”.
NOW COMES THE CAPPING OF THE BRIDE CALLED IN POLISH “OCZEPINY” PRONOUNCED “OCK SHIN PENNY” SIGNIFIES THAT THE BRIDE IS CONSIDERED A MARRIED WOMAN AND A NECKLACE OF BABYDOLLS IS PLACED AROUND HER NECK TO REPRESENT THAT THE COUPLE BE BLESSED WITH MANY HEALTHY CHILDREN.
ALAN GETS THE SAME ENDORSEMENT.
NOW THAT THE BLESSINGS ARE COMPLETED, THE GUEST ARE ASKED TO SHOUT “CONGRATULATONS” IN POLISH: “GRATULUJE” PRONOUNCED: GRATOOLOOYEH!”
The DJ had them play a little game where they had to sit back to back and were asked a series of questions like “Who wears the pants?” “Who made the first move?” and they had to raise their shoe if they thought it was them. There were a few heated debates and questions in accuracy…but it was a crowd pleaser.
This isn’t the most flattering picture of Jodi, but it cracks me up and I love seeing the bouquet flying.
We moved back outside for some more shots of the lovely couple.
Jodi looks so adorable here.
Jodi and Alan gave little envelopes with lottery tickets and a lucky penny inside as a favor.
Today is Jodi’s birthday so leave her/them some love celebrating their beautiful day!
