This is a super rare exception to the rule for Kellan. We don’t typically ever shoot maternity sessions. We HAD to make an exception for Ellen, after all, we did coin her “Bride of the Year” in 2009 when she bought every single package we offered. If you have followed our blog for any amount of time then you are very familiar with her beautiful mug. Her vintage bridal session wearing her mom’s dress, her bridal session, Erik and Ellen’s engagement session and of course their awesome wedding day shoot! Ellen is the very definition of a faithful client and we love her. I may or may not have squealed when I opened her email a few months ago letting us know that she and Erik were expecting a little boy in the fall! Would we be willing to make an exception and take maternity pictures? Yes…yes we can.
We NEVER bring our kids to a shoot…like ever. But seeing as Rhett and I are joined at the hip with nursing and this maternity shoot was an hour away….we had to bring the little guy with us. Apparently, that was not a problem as Rhett was whisked off by Ellen’s mom and Erik’s grandma for two hours to be completely and utterly spoiled with love and attention!
Ellen personalized this session from head to toe starting with the location. This is the home that has been in her father’s family for generations. It was DRIPPING with antiques and historic artifacts. I wish we had had several more hours just to document details around the property and in the home. All of the “outdoor nursery scene” are antiques and keepsakes from her family and her own childhood. Let’s get started.
Ellen is an art teacher by profession. A couple of her students made these drawings. One is a pencil replica of one Ellen’s sonograms. The other student took the assignment of using a lightbulb and came up with this amazing concept.
This is a family we have been blessed to have found through Kellan. What started out as strangers becoming clients, has ended in friendship and celebration. It’s such an honor to document their first pregnancy. Ellen’s mom is an amazing host. She made sure we left that day with fresh squeezed lemonade and the most delicious cookies made by an Amish neighbor. Greeted with hugs and sent off with hugs. We feel really blessed!
Congrats Ellen and Erik! We are beyond thrilled for the adventure ahead of you and can’t wait to meet your sweet boy soon. You know I will have plenty of baby advice waiting for you!
